The design is consistent with the Victorian era, with ornate acanthus leaf details, substantial handles, and lovely beaded borders. The dome is unmarked, but the shared design details and excellent fit strongly suggest the two were originally made to accompany one another.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe dome has beautiful floral scrollwork surrounding an oval cartouche on each side. One bears an elaborate monogram, while the other is unmonogrammed, allowing you to choose which side to display. Even the sculptural handle at the top is a work of art!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOne detail I especially love is the platter’s hot-water reservoir, designed to keep the meat warm during dinner. Channels in the serving surface collect the juices. So much thought went into making this as practical as it was beautiful. Today, it would make an extraordinary display on a dining room sideboard. Imagine it surrounded by greenery at Christmas!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eTogether, the pieces measure 21 inches long, 18.5 inches wide, and 15 inches tall. Please take your measurements—this is a substantial piece with a wonderful presence.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe dome has a few very small dings, along with surface scratches and scattered marks consistent with age. The platter shows noticeable wear and knife marks from years of use. This was a piece that served at the table!
