This very special antique silver plate basket is a demonstration of the fascination that Victorians had with natural history! This gorgeous piece was a tribute to the Great Blue Heron during the late 1800's! The beautiful handled basket was hand chased and depicts the Heron among the grasses. The feet of this unusual piece are also made in the form of herons with their wings spread! Notice the unbelievably detailed engraving and chasing over the entire piece. Made by Derby Silver Co in the late 1800's 10" D x 10.5" tall. Marked Quadrupleplate which indicates it's exceptional quality. It is in excellent condition.
