Historic Mid 1800's Mappin Brothers English Serving Tray
Lovely mid 19th century scalloped and engraved serving plate made by the famous Sheffield company Mappin Brothers. The origins of the company date back to 1810 with founder Joseph Mappin Sr, In 1835 the corporate trade mark "sun" symbol was registered in London. From 1852 to 1859 the company was knows as Mappin Brothers which is how this plate is marked. This historic British antique is 10" D. and is in good antique condition with some wear to the silverplate.
Here is an interesting fact. The historic firm has served prestigious clients, including six British monarchs, Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill, and Harry Houdini. They have supplied fine jewelry and silver objects to royalty across the globe, including the Russian Imperial Household, the Siamese royal family, and the Indian Maharaja.
