Antique Asparagus Tongs

These Victorian asparagus tongs are such a charming example of how even the most practical tableware was once made with beauty in mind. The silverplate serving end is richly detailed with delicate engraving, while the carved handle fits comfortably in the hand. Handle appears to be some type of natural material. Designed specifically for lifting and serving asparagus spears without bruising them, they speak to a time when seasonal vegetables were presented with great care at the table. 10.25" long. There is an extremely tiny hairline crack in the very top of the handle otherwise excellent antique condition.
