Antique Forbes Silver Co. Quadruple Plate Dish

This piece completely threw me. I was immediately drawn to the shape and that intricate, lace-like pierced design. The detail is so fine and elaborate — it has that unmistakable antique presence that only heavily ornamented silver from the 1800s seems to carry.

But the silver was almost too bright and substantial to be antique. Upon closer inspection, I realized this is an antique that has been replated. It is marked Forbes Silver Co. and “Quadruple Plate,” meaning it was originally made with a heavier layer of silver. At some point in its life, it was professionally replated, which explains the beautiful, smooth finish and excellent condition.

So you truly get the best of both worlds — an authentic antique form with crisp detail, but the fresh, polished look of a well-cared-for vintage piece. It measures 15" long x 7" wide.
