Antique Mappin & Webb Prince's Plate Meat Dome Wall Hanging

This started as an antique meat dome and has been halved and made into a wall hanging. The fluting along the bottom is a really nice detail as is the border along the top.  The handle is my favorite part. It looks like a twig shaped into an oval, which gives it a really nice contrast against the formal silver. The back appears to be brass and there’s a hole for a nail so it’s ready to hang.

Inside you can still see the original markings: Mappin & Webb, “Prince's Plate,” London & Sheffield. Mappin & Webb was founded in 1775 and became one of the most respected English silversmiths, with strong ties to Sheffield’s silver industry. “Prince’s Plate” was one of their silverplate lines, known for quality production. I always love when the original mark is still visible like this.

It measures 14" wide x 9" tall. There is what looks to be a little glue inside where someone maybe had some faux flowers at some point. This is an easy piece to layer into a gallery wall or hang on its own.
