Antique Marigold Silver Quadruple Plate Teapot, Aesthetic Movement Design
Antique Marigold Silver Quadruple Plate Teapot, Aesthetic Movement Design
This antique silver-plated teapot has such a striking and unusual design. The body features an engraved scene of stylized palm fronds and botanical forms, giving it a distinctly Aesthetic Movement feel—this late 1800's style often drew inspiration from nature, particularly Japanese and tropical motifs, rather than the heavier Victorian patterns.
The shape itself is beautifully done, with a squared, slightly rounded body, a fitted lid with decorative finial, and sculptural handles. It sits on detailed feet that add to the overall presence.
It measures approximately 9” wide (handle to spout) and 8” tall.
The underside is marked “Marigold Silver Quadruple Plate.” Quadruple plate refers to a higher-quality silverplating process where four layers of silver were applied over a base metal. This created a thicker, more durable finish than standard silverplate and was commonly used in the late 1800s for better tableware pieces.
There is visible wear to the silverplate, including areas of thinning and surface scratching, as shown in the photos. The engraved design remains clear and is really the highlight of this piece.
A very interesting and decorative antique teapot with a design you don’t see often
