Antique Pairpoint Britannia Plate Biscuit Holder

Wonderful antique biscuit holder by Pairpoint Manufacturing Company with one of the most unusual forms I have come across. The body is shaped like an oriental fan and sits gracefully on four detailed feet. Every inch of this piece is covered in intricate design work, from the ornate piercing to the beautiful embossed details throughout. The lid lifts from either side, adding even more charm and interest to the design.

Pairpoint Manufacturing Co. was founded in New Bedford, Massachusetts in the 1800s and became especially well known for its fine silverplate and luxury decorative wares. Their pieces are highly collected today because of the craftsmanship and creativity of their designs, and this is such a wonderful example of that artistry.

This piece is done in Britannia Plate, a type of silverplate finish popular in the late Victorian era. Britannia plate develops a softer, warmer antique tone over time and typically does not polish to a bright mirror shine like some later silverplate pieces. This lovely aged color is exactly how it is meant to look.

Otherwise in excellent antique condition with beautiful display presence. A spectacular and highly decorative piece for a silver collection, tea table, or shelf display. 8.25" tall x 6" wide.
