This antique Wilcox Silver Plate Company teapot was made in Meriden, Connecticut, one of the great centers of American silver manufacturing in the late 1800s. Wilcox was known for producing beautifully made silverplate during the Victorian period, and this example is marked Quadruple Plate, meaning it was finished with four layers of silver over the base metal — a designation companies used to indicate a higher-quality piece. The design is especially lovely with tall fluting around the body that catches the light nicely, and it sits on four small feet which gives it a graceful presence on the table. It measures 10 inches tall and is in good antique condition. As you would expect with a piece of this age, there are a few areas where the silverplate has rubbed through over time.
