Antique Silver City Silverplate Co. Quadruple Plate Covered Dish with Liner (Meriden, CT)
Antique Silver City Silverplate Co. Quadruple Plate Covered Dish with Liner (Meriden, CT)
This is such a fantastic and unique antique covered dish made by Silver City Silverplate Co. of Meriden, Connecticut, a well-known American silver manufacturer from the late 1800s and early 1900s. The piece is marked quadruple plate, which means the base metal was finished with four layers of silver — a sign of a higher quality silverplate meant to hold up beautifully with use.
The design is wonderful. It sits on four ornate feet and has two decorative side handles. The lid is especially pretty, with a raised floral design and a detailed finial handle on top. Inside there is a fitted tin liner, which was often used for serving warm dishes or protecting the silverplate during use. It measures 12" wide and 5" tall and is in excellent antique condition. A really lovely and unusual piece that would stand out on a table or buffet.
