Antique Biscuit Barrel

An antique biscuit barrel is a wonderful find! Historically, biscuit barrels became popular in the 19th century when the availability of mass-produced biscuits increased.  Beyond their practical use for storing baked goods, biscuit barrels were also considered decorative pieces, symbolizing hospitality and refinement in Victorian-era households. Today, they remain cherished items in many homes, valued for their functionality and nostalgic charm. This one has beautiful wreaths of fern tied with a bow at the base adorning the sides and the little finial on top features the classic greek key design. The base features the very elegant claw and ball feet!  There is some wear or tarnish to the silverplate on this piece and the inside is very tarnished, but it is still a fabulous antique! 8" tall x 7.5" wide.
