This antique English butter or entrée dish was made in the mid to late 1800s by Martin, Hall & Co. of Sheffield, one of the well-known names in Victorian silverplate. The form is classic for the period, with a domed roll-top lid designed to keep contents warm at the table, and the original side chains still intact so the lid can be lifted and rested back while serving.

The detail on this piece is what sets it apart. The lid is decorated with a beautiful rose garland and wreath motif, and the base features draped swags and acanthus leaf details, all resting on finely cast feet. The beaded edge gives it a clean, finished look that balances the ornamentation nicely. These were made to emulate fine English silver for formal dining, and this is a really strong example of that tradition.

It measures 9” wide by 5.5” tall. excellent antique condition.
