1890s Shell Shaped Silver Cheese Dish
1890s Shell Shaped Silver Cheese Dish
Made by William Adams in the 1890s in England, here is an exquisite shell shaped cheese dish or butter serving dish! William Adams was founded in 1865 and was known for exporting its goods to the United States, particularly New York. This piece is clearly marked "England." That is because in 1890, the McKinley Tariff Act mandated that the country in which an item was made must be indicated on the item to be imported to the United States. This piece is 9" x 9.5" and has a glass insert. It is in wonderful antique condition with a little copper showing, most notably a spot on the back to the left of the handle.
