Fantastic and unique Antique Pitcher from the 1800's
Fantastic and unique Antique Pitcher from the 1800's
Wow, I love this pitcher. Don’t tell the others, but this might be one of my favorites. It’s such a unique and beautiful silverplate piece with wonderful presence on the table. It sits on a stately square base that gives it a really interesting architectural look, and the body is decorated with the most charming flowers that look almost like daffodils or lilies — perfect for this time of year — or even a bit like morning glories climbing around the surface. The handle is especially striking, very substantial with graceful flourishes and lovely detail, and the whole piece has that nice heavy feel that you want in antique silver. There is a light monogram etched on the front, and the underside is marked Derby Silver Co. Quadruple Plate. Derby Silver Company was one of the American silver manufacturers working in the late 1800's , and pieces marked quadruple plate indicate a higher-quality process where the base metal was coated with four layers of silver, something companies often highlighted during the Victorian era to show the durability and value of the piece. It measures 10.25 inches tall and has wonderful scale for display or use.
