Antique Walker & Hall Silverplate Urn – Grand Grecian Form
Antique Walker & Hall Silverplate Urn – Grand Grecian Form
Now this is a piece with history. Made by the renowned Walker & Hall in Sheffield, England between 1853 and 1920, this urn is more than just beautiful—it’s backed by one of the most fascinating names in British silver. The firm was founded in 1845 by George Walker, who worked alongside Dr. John Wright, the chemist behind groundbreaking experiments in electroplating. Thanks to their partnership, Walker secured the exclusive electroplating rights for the Sheffield area—setting the stage for a silver legacy.
This particular urn is a showstopper. With a form that echoes a Grecian vase, it stands an impressive 17” tall and features stately side handles that give it real presence. Beaded detailing lines both the rim and the pedestal base, which rests on a square platform supported by four classic ball feet.
It’s in very good antique condition with some soft tarnish. A rare and striking piece that would be stunning on a mantel or sideboard.
