Manhattan Quadroupleplate Butter Dish 1877

There was about one year that the Manhattan Silver Plate Company operated under that name, it was 1877.  This lovely antique dome covered butter dish is marked quadrupleplate.  This was the process of covering the piece with four layers of sterling silver, increasing its quality and the reason it has lasted so long in such good condition.  Note the fluted lid with pediment, the tiny beaded edge on the scalloped base and the beaded heart shaped handles and the beading on the handles that hold the butter knife. This butter dish has the original tray which held the wet butter and allowed it to drain.   9" wide x 6" tall. Butter knife has a light "M" monogram on it.
