Antique Aesthetic Silverplate Lily Pad Vide-Poche

Now this is such a wonderful piece! This antique silverplated vide-poche takes the form of a beautifully detailed lily pad, complete with a little crab, an open flower, and a closed bud. Even the three feet underneath curl like stems!

“Vide-poche” is French for “empty pockets”—a small dish intended to hold the little things you set down at the end of the day. I love the idea of using this one for rings and earrings on a dresser, or simply displaying it on a stack of books.

Described as Aesthetic in style, its nature-inspired details fit beautifully with the late-19th-century taste for bringing flowers, leaves, and creatures into decorative objects. Likely dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s.

This probably won't polish up any more so please review photos. It appears as though the side of the pad and some of the flower petals may have been slightly bent. Such a charming piece with so much to notice!
