Pair of Rare Antique 1860’s Staffordshire Peacock Spill Vases
This is a lovely pair of 19th-century Staffordshire pottery spill vases made in England, each featuring a colorful peacock perched in a flowering tree. I just love how vibrant the hand-painted details are, especially the bright coral interiors and the pops of cobalt blue and green. These would have originally been used to hold “spills”—small rolled tapers or twisted paper tapers that were kept by the hearth to light candles, lanterns, or the fire itself. Apx. 8” tall. Very good antique condition with some wear to the paint (see photos)
