Very Rare Aesthetic Movement Pedestal from 1846
Very special and rare, silver plated pedestal from the early Victorian period, when consumers couldn't get enough of these artistic creations. Aesthetic Movement is a style of silver plated objects of art that blossomed in the mid to late 1800's. These pieces are rare today but can be identified by their unique designs featuring figures, detailed symbols and wildlife. This pedestal was made by Wilcox which was one of the four manufacturers of aesthetic movement pieces. It was quadruple plated, meaning that four layers of silver covered the piece. Tall legs or pedestals were also features of this type. This tall stand has a unique pillar which holds an unusually shaped plate with a square design and interesting edges. The plate is engraved with intricate symbols. It is marked Quadroupleplate Wilcox Silverplate Co 1846.
