Rare Victorian Quadroupleplate Sardine Box
Rare Victorian Quadroupleplate Sardine Box
If you are a collector, here is a piece I bet you may not have acquired yet! This is a rare piece- a Victorian sardine box! This intricately crafted box was coated with four layers of silver, reflecting the Victorian love for elaborate detailing. This box features intricate etching on the sides and lid, with a fish finial on top. The inner compartment would be able to fit two cans of sardines, canned goods being a DELICACY in Victorian times! These boxes were used during formal meals to present sardines in a refined manner, showcasing the Victorian emphasis on elegant table settings and proper presentation of food. Very good antique condition with some wear or tarnish on the silver, pictured, and a spot you can see inside the box. Made by Wilcox silver co in the 1800's. 5.25" x 4" tall.
