Fine Vintage Silver on Copper Pedestal Revere Bowl
Fine Vintage Silver on Copper Pedestal Revere Bowl
Did you know that in addition to being an American patriot, Paul Revere was also a famed silversmith? Revere bowls get their name from the simple, beautiful bowl form he made in the late 1700s, back when he was working as a silversmith in Boston (in addition to his more famous midnight ride). His bowls were admired for their clean lines and early American feel, and they became a benchmark for good design.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, during the Colonial Revival period, American silver companies began recreating this classic shape and calling them “Revere bowls” as a nod to those early originals. So most Revere bowls you see today aren’t from the 1700s, but they’re intentionally modeled after that historic form, which is part of what makes them so appealing to collectors and decorators alike.
This bowl is a fine vintage piece that is silver on copper. It is made by Sheridan. 10" x 5.5" Excellent vintage condition with some very light surface scratching
