Charming Swan Shaped Toast Holder

This mid century toast holder is unusual in that it is shaped like a swan. Toast racks became popular in the Victorian Era to keep toast dry and to serve it easily.  In fact they were touted in an 1865  book called Mrs Beeton’s Dictionary of Every-Day Cookery,  in which the author writes "to make dry toast properly, a great deal of attention is required; much more, indeed, than people generally suppose.”  In this rack the swans body acts as a crumb catcher tray.   8”l x 6.6” t.
