Ingenious Pedestal Ice Bowl with Separate Drainage Reservoir

This is the most ingenious piece of silverplate I have ever come across! If I could reproduce it, I would. Beneath that beautiful bowl is a separate reservoir that collects water as the ice melts. The bowl simply lifts off so you can empty the water below. Such a clever design!

Wonderful for chilling a bottle of champagne, but you know I immediately thought of plants! I love using silver for orchids and geraniums, and drainage is always the challenge. This piece actually has holes in the bottom. A nursery pot nestled inside would let excess water drain into the reservoir, which you can lift the bowl off to empty.

The wide bowl, pedestal shape, and intricate fan-shaped border make it beautiful as well as useful. A really interesting piece to bring out for entertaining or enjoy as a planter.

There is noticeable tarnish, surface scratching, and wear to the silverplating. The decorative rim is especially darkened. I’m not sure whether it will polish up any further, so please purchase it for the aged finish you see here and review the photos closely.

Measures 10.25” wide by 7.5” tall. Includes the bowl and separate reservoir base.
