A wonderfully unusual Victorian trophy cup by the well-known English maker Mappin Brothers of London and Sheffield. This still bears the Mappin Brothers address: 222 Regent Street and London Bridge. This piece has incredible detail throughout, from the military figural stem and lid finial to the engraved laurel wreaths and ribbon motifs around the cup. The interior retains its gold plated finish, which contrasts beautifully against the silverplate exterior.

Mappin Brothers was one of the premier English silver firms of the Victorian era and supplied luxury goods during the late 1800s. Pieces with detailed figural work like this are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

This appears to have originally been made as a presentation or trophy cup. The center cartouche remains blank, which leaves it beautifully clean for display. The removable lid features a standing soldier holding a rifle, echoed again in the figural base.

Excellent antique condition 10" tall.
