Winner’s Circle — Trio of 1957 Silverplate Trophy Bowls
Winner’s Circle — Trio of 1957 Silverplate Trophy Bowls
What a wonderful collection! Three handsome silverplated bowls, each awarded for a first-place finish at a 1957 BMC Hill Climb. I love the original engravings, especially the one celebrating a winning lady driver!
The initials BMC likely refer to Delaware’s Brandywine Motorsport Club, which organized hill-climbing competitions in its early years. In these events, drivers raced individually against the clock up a winding uphill course. These bowls offer such an interesting glimpse into the motoring scene of the 1950s, commemorating wins in the Ladies Class, Class G, and an Under 1300 cc category for smaller-engine cars.
The trio includes:
-
Ladies Class, First, 1957: Made by Poole, measuring 6" wide × 3" tall.
-
Class G, First, 1957: Silverplate over copper, measuring 6" wide × 3" tall.
-
Under 1300 cc, First, 1957: Made by Cheshire, measuring 6⅛" wide × 3¼" tall.
I would display these together on a bookshelf with their engravings facing out, or fill them with little seasonal arrangements down the center of a table. Such a lovely collection for someone who appreciates silver with a story, and a thoughtful gift for a vintage car enthusiast!
All three are silverplated and in excellent vintage condition. One has the tiniest little tent along the rim. The price is for the trio.
